Summary
Students are eligible to join if they are:

Rising 3rd and 4th graders who need extra help with reading

Interested families will attend an information session and choose to join!

Online screenings will be given to determine eligibility
-
Parents will participate in pre-camp activities (such as questionnaires)

Eligible students will complete in-person and online reading assessments and an fMRI brain (with parent permission)
BRAIN Camp includes:

Reading instruction for some students
-
Math instruction for others, or
-
Memory and attention activities
-
Fun activities for all

Free lunch and snacks

Free transportation from Hartford to Storrs - more info coming soon!

Neuroimaging to see how the brain changes with instruction

Both fMRI and EEG are non-invasive and safe neuroimaging methods

When?

2022 Session: July 11, 2022-August 12, 2022

The camp will run from Monday-Friday
-
Drop off is between 8:15am-8:30am and pick up is between 3:30pm-4:00pm

Where? All activities will take place at UConn, Storrs campus

What is the cost? Nothing! BRAIN CAMP is FREE for families

All materials and activities are free

Free daily lunch and snacks will be provided

Parents should arrange for transportation. However, we are looking into providing transportation from Hartford-Storrs and back for families who need it. More details to come soon!

What neuroimaging scans are done?
-
An fMRI scan will be done before the start of camp
-
4 short EEG sessions will be spaced out over the course of the program
-
COVID GUIDELINES (subject to change prior to the start of camp)

Maintaining small groups
-
Temperature/symptom checks every morning

High frequency hand washing and hand sanitizer availability

Sanitizing equipment/rooms after use
-
Modified curriculum to provide fun, active and safe games
-
Instructors & Campers are required to wear masks at all times
